Vivian Chan is a photographer and director based between New York and Los Angeles. Her work spans genres but is anchored in her own unique, dark romantic sensibility. She shoots visual heirlooms; images rooted in research that elicit emotions intended to linger.

Vivian’s artistic training began long before her introduction to the camera. She grew up alongside the art practice of her grandfather, painter Luong Truong Tho. His decades of work helped Vivian to define her own personal ethics and build the foundation of her career. Vivian’s ethos centers on the notion that lasting legacies exist by means of creation, consistency and consideration. Growing up with strong Vietnamese roots, she works to build a personal archive of the diaspora. Her photography aims to honor the space before us while simultaneously building something new.

With dance as a defining part of her formative years, Vivian’s images are graphic and bold, built on dramatic posing that captures the body in motion. Each frame reads as part of a larger story. Vivian creates work that enhances a concept, brand direction or visual identity through performance, showcasing how it lives in the hands of the viewer every day.
